MCS Congratulates the Utah Symphony as they Celebrate their 75th Anniversary

President and CEO of the Utah Symphony, Melia Tourangeau, announced the Utah Symphony’s 2015-16 75th anniversary season agenda from the historic Salt Lake Tabernacle, the original home of Utah Symphony last week. After years of collaboration with the Utah Symphony, The Madeleine Choir School is honored to be included among four other major arts organizations in partnering with them once again during this year of celebration. Other local arts organizations collaborating with the Utah Symphony include: Ballet West, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Utah Opera and Utah Shakespeare Festival.

What will the Shakespeare play be this year?

Romeo and Juliet? Hamlet? Find out for yourself as the MCS Eighth Graders debut their Shakespearian performance Thursday, May 7th at 2:00p.m. An encore of the performance can also be seen Friday, May 8th at 7:00p.m. Both performances will be held in the MCS Auditorium in Erbin Hall.

MCS 5th Grade Rallies for Clean Air

MCS 5th graders made signs and other pieces of artwork that were given to legislators after the rally for clean air at the Utah State Capitol Building today. Many of our students prepared speeches on how air pollution affects them and solutions to the problem. They did an amazing job delivering their speaches in front of a large crowd in the Capitol rotunda. Their teacher, Mr. Knibbe, received many unsolicited compliments about how well spoken and well prepared the students were from the rally organizers, legislators, parents, and news media. "Several of the students were asked to speak before legislators when clean air topics come up for debate, either in committees or on the house or senate floor," said Mr. Knibbe.

Choir School Alumnus' Orchestral Piece to Premiere at the Kennedy Center

MCS alumnus Matthew Yost ('07) credits his education at The Madeleine Choir School after being selected as the winner of the Catholic University of America’s 50th Anniversary competition orchestral fanfare for composing his piece Ut Sol, Ut Luna. The piece will be premiered by the CUA’s symphony orchestra as the concert opener at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on April 12, 2015.

The Choir School Mourns the Passing of Mrs. Skaggs

Our School Community is saddened at the recent news of the passing of Mrs. Aline Skaggs, the wife of the late Mr. Sam Skaggs. Mrs. Skaggs died peacefully in Salt Lake City on Monday, January 5, 2015. Please remember Mrs. Skaggs, and her children Susie, Mark, Claudia and Don in your thoughts and prayers. The Choir School is extremely grateful for the generous support that we, and all of Utah’s Catholic Schools, have received from the Skaggs family.
