MCS 5th graders made signs and other pieces of artwork that were given to legislators after the rally for clean air at the Utah State Capitol Building today. Many of our students prepared speeches on how air pollution affects them and solutions to the problem. They did an amazing job delivering their speaches in front of a large crowd in the Capitol rotunda. Their teacher, Mr. Knibbe, received many unsolicited compliments about how well spoken and well prepared the students were from the rally organizers, legislators, parents, and news media. "Several of the students were asked to speak before legislators when clean air topics come up for debate, either in committees or on the house or senate floor," said Mr. Knibbe.

MCS alumnus Matthew Yost ('07) credits his education at The Madeleine Choir School after being selected as the winner of the Catholic University of America’s 50th Anniversary competition orchestral fanfare for composing his piece Ut Sol, Ut Luna. The piece will be premiered by the CUA’s symphony orchestra as the concert opener at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on April 12, 2015.

In a new book titled “Secrets of the Greatest Snow on Earth,” University of Utah scientist, ski aficionado, and MCS alumni parent, Jim Steenburgh delves into what makes Utah snow prime for winter sports.

A noteworthy education: music and liturgy enrich learning at cathedral’s coed choir school

Our School Community is saddened at the recent news of the passing of Mrs. Aline Skaggs, the wife of the late Mr. Sam Skaggs. Mrs. Skaggs died peacefully in Salt Lake City on Monday, January 5, 2015. Please remember Mrs. Skaggs, and her children Susie, Mark, Claudia and Don in your thoughts and prayers. The Choir School is extremely grateful for the generous support that we, and all of Utah’s Catholic Schools, have received from the Skaggs family.

The Catholic Bishops of the United States have set aside the week of January 4th through Janaury 10th as National Migration Week, inviting us all to pray, study and reflect on the many challenges faced by immigrants, refugees and the victims of human trafficking in our world.
