The Choristers of the Madeleine Choir School present their annual performance of Benjamin Britten's 'A Ceremony Carols' at 12:15 PM on the afternoon of December 22 & 23 this year. These performances at the Cathedral of the Madeleine are FREE and open to the public. NO PASSES are required. Click the image or headline for more details.

Last Saturday, November 7, 2015, saw the Second Annual MCS Superheroes (and Villains) 5K and Fun Run at Sugarhouse Park. With 168 registered runners ranging in age from 7 to 62 this event was, once again, a great success for the Choir School. Congratulations to our overall winner Martina Barnes (aka Wonder Woman) with a time of 22:20.718.

As the old archway and brick work become re-exposed in the demolition phase of our Erbin Hall renovation project, the classic architecture of this historic building is beginning to show some of the re-found character that will accompany the new learning spaces for our students next year and for decades to come.

MJSA and Okland Construction have been hard at work with Mr. Glenn and Principal Baillie over the past few months with an eye on every detail necessary to complete the project for the future safety of our students, faculty and volunteers.

Each year The Madeleine Choir School honors Jane F. McCarthey, one of the school's major benefactors, by celebrating 'Crazy Hat Day' in her memory. Mrs. McCarthey was a great fan of fancy and elaborate hats. October 3 marks the anniversary of her death and all MCS students attend a requiem Mass for Mrs. McCarthey -- with hats removed, of course. Pictured here are a few of our students today in their 'crazy' hats in recognition of all that Mrs. McCarthey and the McCarthey Family Foundation have done for the Choir School.

To welcome and celebrate the apostolic journey of Pope Francis to the United States last week, The Madeleine Choir School launched a fundraiser addressing an issue very close to the heart of Pope Francis. The Choir School community sought to raise $4,000 to benefit refugees worldwide. With the support of many MCS students and others in the MCS community we substaintiallly surpassed our goal and are pleased to announce that our effort has yielded $7,421.

The Madeleine Choir School launched a fundraiser addressing an issue very close to the heart of Pope Francis this week. The effort began with a goal to raise $4,000 to benefit refugees worldwide to welcome the Holy Father to the United States.
In recent days, Pope Francis has again called attention to the plight of the refugees fleeing from Syria and Iraq. He is especially concerned about the elderly, the children, and those with illnesses. There are many compelling images in the media surrounding this international tragedy. The images represent both the dire struggle of those searching for human life free of violence, terror and economic injustice, and the humane inspiration provided by simple individuals aiding those in need at this crucial time (click headline to read more).

CaiLi Plesche (MCS '10) will serve as an alter assistant at Mass on Wednesday, September 23 in the afternoon on the East Portico of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and the University Mall at The Catholic University of America. During the Mass, the pope will canonize Blessed Junípero Serra.

The Choir School would like to extend congratulations to alumni receiving respective academic and service honors as they graduate from high school and look to their endeavors in higher education this year.
MCS alumni Conor Donehue, Anthony Palmer, Christopher Payne, Andrew Sagers, and Joseph Stokes were recognized at this year's Awards Celebration at Judge Memorial Catholic High School. These MCS alumni took home 17 awards as they conclude their Senior year.
Ten MCS alumni at West High School have been recognized with honors and distinctions this year.
"Choir School students learn the value of hard work, as well as grit and perseverance. We see the results of one of the best liberal arts schools in the state when MCS alumni are recognized for their academic excellence and achievements at the high school and collegiate levels every year," remarked Principal Jill Baillie.

Stephen Grant, a Seventh Grade Student at The Madeleine Choir School, was awarded first place in the Utah League of Cities and Towns eighteenth annual “Why I Like My Community” essay contest at the school’s morning assembly on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.
Tom Godfrey with ULCT presented the award to Grant on the campus of MCS in front of 360 fellow students and many teachers and parents.

The Choir School community extends its congratulations to Joseph Stokes (Class of 2011) upon being chosen as Valedictorian for the Judge Memorial High School Class of 2015. Joseph is the oldest son of Christopher and Catherine Stokes and one of five family members who are or have attended the Choir School: Maria (Class of 2012), Michael (Class of 2016), Peter (Class of 2019) and C. J. (Class of 2020). Joseph’s grandfather, Dr. Glenn Olsen, is a faculty member at the University of Utah and serves on the Choir School’s Board. We applaud Joseph for this great accomplishment and wish him well as he continues his studies in the fall at the University of Dallas.
