Safe Environment Training
The Diocese of Salt Lake City has as one of its first concerns the safety of all of the young people and children who take part in its many programs and institutions. All diocesan personnel and volunteers (even if minors themselves), having regular contact with children, youth and vulnerable adults must comply with diocesan policies and with applicable state and local laws. The Diocese of Salt Lake requires that all personnel and volunteers complete the Safe Environment compliance online training and background check. Personnel and employees must re-certify every three years.
The Diocese will not allow employees or volunteers to begin working with children until they have completed all of the necessary steps of the Safe Environment process. Please visit our Safe Environment Page at https://www.utmcs.org/apps/pages/safeenvironment for details on completing your Safe Environment Training and Background Check before you volunteer. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the school office, Safe Environment Coordinator for The Madeleine Choir School, at [email protected] or 801-323-9850.
Student Parent Handbook 2024-2025
Student Medication
If your child requires an EpiPen, inhaler, medication (prescription or over-the-counter), etc., please fill out the applicable forms in the link below and bring them to the school office along with your student's medication. If you are able to supply us with more than one EpiPen, inhaler, etc., we will keep one in the school office and one in the classroom. Please contact the school office with any questions at [email protected].
Substitute Teaching
Substituting is a wonderful way to get your parent volunteer hours in, or to earn a little extra money! Many times, substitutes are only needed for partial days, allowing flexibility with your schedule. No teaching experience is required, as teachers leave sub plans, materials, and information on accessing support during the day. Please fill out the Substitute Interest Form if you are interested in joining the substitute teacher list for this school year. You will be able to specify your preferred subject areas, grade levels, and schedule availability on the form.
All substitute teachers must complete their Safe Environment training prior to working with students. Access to Safe Environment training may be found at: https://www.utmcs.org/apps/pages/safeenvironment
School Supplies
24-hour Emergency Kit
Pre-K - 8th
All students will need to bring a 24 hour emergency kit to class the first week of school. The list of items for the kit can be found in the attachments below.
Chromebook
6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are required to bring their fully-charged Chromebook to school every day. As part of the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy, families must provide a Chromebook for their student(s) before the start of school. We use Google Apps for Education, and Chromebooks are an affordable option for integrating with that technology while meeting the instructional needs in the classroom and at home. Google Apps for Education includes Google Docs, Google Chrome, Google Classroom, and more. Please see the attachment below for minimum Chromebook specifications.
Headphones
Students in grades 1-8 need to bring headphones every day that are compatible with Chromebooks (standard 3.5mm); Grades 6-8 may use bluetooth capable headphones paired with their personal Chromebook.
Volunteering Information
Each family is required to complete a minimum of 25 hours of volunteer hours (15 for qualifying single parent families) in any approved school activity. There are a number of volunteer opportunities (on-campus and off-campus) to earn the required 25 volunteer hours. Visit our MCS Volunteer Page at https://www.utmcs.org/apps/pages/volunteering for more information on volunteer opportunities, volunteer signups, and to record your volunteer hours.
For questions about required volunteer hours, email our Office Manager at [email protected].
For general questions about volunteering please email our HSA President at [email protected].
