in January saw the little prince and it is the most special book to me my grandpa introduced it to me years ago while Utah Opera and the Madeleine Choir School did it live at Capitol Theater and it was absolutely stunning I was so happy to see it so I had to come to the Madeleine High School to actually see these kids rehearsing and Performing because they are so talented I want to bring in Gregory who is the founder hello-how-are-you the director of music you got a big role here so both of you do grabbing me and it's just such an amazing school so first things that start with U Gregory talks about the school school or was founded in 1996 as an elementary school that had a special focus of terrorism which was the musical life and so we're delighted to be provide this Arts education opportunity for the young people in the Salt Lake Valley we have over 400 students and we are continuing to develop and grow and become a better institution that we work when it's an incredible camp my favorite part of this and also my photographer who is also very musical wheel of music so to see an education that is intertwined with music is incredible so tell us about what you do with violin and choir yeah so I'm all our students from pre-k through eighth-grade are involved in the music classes and the younger grades it's twice a week the students have kind of a more traditional music class at also involves Movement singing them instruments things like that and then starting in second grade students also twice a week and violin in group lessons and in third grade than they also add Preparatory choir so to speak so if we call it a sing-along class so starting in third grade are students of Music five days away what does wonderful yeah and then fourth grade becomes a little bit more focused on music theory and that stuff last year for them to prepare to move into a choir program which is for a 5th wait wait until starting in fifth grade our students are so in one of the choirs and that we offer here we have currently six different choir actually seven different buyers on campus it's just incredible in hearing them I am completely wowed that they are fifth through eighth graders that we just heard and you guys travel with them all so you take them to Italy me go all over the place adjusting to hear Granite we can't see them almost daily here but tell us about some of the travel we travel on each every other year in the National League so early in the year will be traveling to Portugal to do a performance store but every fourth year we go to Rome in Italy in and take part in service which I'm sure is very very special options as far as the songs that they are learning what type of music is all it's mainly music for the Opera students it's mainly music that would be used in literature at the Cathedral of the Madeleine those Sacred Music and I'm in our low-grade salted lots of folk music and music from different cultures as well I'm in and every once in a while we have the opportunity to partner with organizations like Utah Opera and that would be defend John written for our students and they love being part of these performances have solutely while you guys are an incredible team and your whole school I mean I'm just so impressed by this let's talk about things that the public can come and hear them they're totally free that they can come to correct yeah we have a Founders Day concert coming up in March on the 17th of March tickets are available very soon you can go to our website to find them and as well you can hear them every Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral but you also have a choir that they don't even have to attend the school do we have a choir for 3rd and 4th graders from anywhere in the valley and we rehearse once a week on Wednesdays after school and then participate in various performances and have a partnership with with a retirement home in the valley as well as securing them now you have to get your kids if you want to bring them to the school and have the music 5 days a week which I wish I had had tell them how to get more information at our website at the Cutie MCS.
