Choir and Violin Program
Choir and Violin Program
Instruction in violin is offered for all students in 2nd and 3rd grades. Of all instruments, the violin most closely resembles the sound of the human voice and creates an early opportunity for ear training and tuning as well as a wonderful introduction to music theory and the reading of music notation. All students playing stringed instruments are invited to participate in the before school Chamber Orchestra program.
Every child receives musical and vocal training through the end of 4th grade. After that, students who have reached a certain level of musical proficiency, interest, and stamina are moved into one of five choirs:
- St. Gregory Choir (boys)
- St. Cecelia Choir (girls)
- St. Nicholas Choir (boys who are continuing to develop vocally)
- St. Therese Choir (girls who are continuing to develop vocally)
- St. Hildegarde Choir (boys and girls who are continuing to develop vocally)
Boys with changing voices sing in the St. John Bosco Choir.
Some students from the St. Gregory Choir and St. Cecilia Choir will be asked to participate in the Schola Choir, a smaller group of choristers who perform at funerals, weddings, and other select events.
Music education continues for all students through Grade 8th grade.
