Choir School Students to Rally for Clean Air at the State Capitol, Again

The Clean Air Rally tackles one of the global environmental issues Pope Francis talked about in his encyclical—Laudato Si—addressed to "every person living on this planet.” The Pope noted that the “citizens of this city, country and earth have a vested interest in addressing these ecological issues.”

Approximately 300 students from the Choir School will participate this year. The Choir School has invited students from other local schools to join them in expressing their concerns as constituents and citizens in the community, and welcomes all to come out and support their efforts.

An additional purpose of this educational experience is to empower students' voices on issues they care about passionately.

Fifth grade students at the Choir School are preparing for the rally by:

  • Writing opinion letters to our local newspapers.
  • Researching, writing, and practicing giving speeches.
  • Sending out invitations to our government representatives and media outlets.
  • Tracking bills and making artwork.
  • Monitoring air quality on campus.

Choir School students have also come together within their school community to limit the PM 2.5s emitted into our air through limiting bus and car idling on campus and promoting carpooling with their own parents.
